Number Memory

Number Memory is a scientifically-inspired test of your short-term (working) memory capacity. The game shows you a sequence of digits for a brief moment, then asks you to recall and type them from memory. Starting with just 3 digits, each successful round adds one more digit to the sequence. The average person can remember 7 plus or minus 2 digits (known as Miller's Law in cognitive psychology). How far can you push your limits? This game is used by psychologists and educators as a measure of working memory span, and regular practice has been shown to improve digit span over time.

How to Play

A number sequence will flash on screen for a few seconds. After it disappears, type the number you remember and press Enter. Each level adds one more digit. One wrong answer and the game shows your final level.

Tips & Strategies

Try chunking digits into groups of 2-3 (like phone numbers). Create mental images or rhythms for the number sequence. Saying the numbers in your head as they appear helps encode them into memory. Regular practice genuinely improves your digit span over weeks.
